Chakshumathi is a global leader in developing and implementing born-accessible digital learning pedagogy, enabling mainstream schools and education boards to become truly inclusive.
We firmly believe in educational equity for all and actively advocate for the principles outlined in the 1994 Salamanca Treaty. While global authorities and educationists often label children with special needs as “children with disabilities,” we challenge this perspective. Who has the right to call anyone disabled or brand them as less capable? Every child is born with a unique purpose and potential—diversity is a strength, not a limitation.
Being a think tank in the area of Inclusive Education, Chakshumathi focus on 3 major areas.
Policy Changes to enable equitable education for children with special needs. All these changes are collaborate efforts with other NGOs, National and International Organisations, and Governments to update national and international laws and policies in tune with the changing times.
Traditional print-based pedagogy, designed by and for able-bodied individuals, has long been a barrier for children with special needs. However, even in today’s Gen Z era, many able-bodied students are also struggling with outdated, irrelevant curricula that fail to prepare them for the future. The solution? A digital-first pedagogy that identifies each child’s talents, aptitude, and inherent abilities—reshaping education to maximize their potential and transform them into champions of their purpose.
At Chakshumathi, we believe:
🛠️ It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults.
That’s why our focus is exclusively on students with special needs, their parents, and educationists who are committed to creating a truly inclusive learning environment.
Since 2011, Chakshumathi has led two national campaigns to empower children with special needs:
1️ Becoming catalysts and think tanks to make policy changes in the governments.
We started by creating accessible educational content in STEM subjects and general reading as part of the DAISY Forum of India and later with Bookshare while also fostering technology literacy among students with special needs.
Today, Chakshumathi’s impact extends to students across 11 countries and throughout India. In partnership with Indic AI, Benetech / Bookshare, and Karna Vidhya Foundation, we are now transforming Indian schools into inclusive digital learning spaces, making them accommodative and accessible for children with diverse needs.
In the State of Andhra Pradesh, Chakshumathi serves as the chief advisor for Inclusive Education. In 2024, Andhra Pradesh was nationally recognized for its Andhra Model Inclusive Education initiative—an achievement made possible through our Digitally Accessible Pedagogy.
At Chakshumathi, we are not just reimagining education—we are revolutionizing it to ensure that every child, regardless of ability, gets the opportunity to thrive.
